Today's Battle
Netflix once again set the pace of streaming in Mexico with new releases and announcements of local content that got millions of households talking about its upcoming series. Spotify didn't fall behind: it launched audiobooks in the country and strongly expanded an offering that already goes beyond music.
Disney+ kept moving its catalog and solidified its position among the favorite platforms of Mexican audiences, while Amazon Prime Video streamed sports events that put it on recent consumption guides. HBO Max, boosted by a recent documentary, revived conversation about its library in the local market. On free-to-air television, TelevisaUnivision maintains its lineup and broadcasts at the center of the media debate, and TV Azteca retained traffic and visibility with coverage and trending content. Claro Sports turned digital sports streaming into its strongest card for visibility, ViX continues fighting for audiences on the same turf, and Apple TV+, more low-key, appears in comparisons of premium platforms.
Overall, the battle for the Mexican viewer is being fought with live sports, local content, and proprietary catalogs, and whoever manages to combine those three pieces will have the advantage in the coming months.
